Northwood House was built in 1880, at the height of Broughty Ferry's Victorian boom, when Dundee's jute wealth was turning the hill above the Tay into the richest square mile in Europe. A century and a half later, the restoration has been about taking layers away rather than adding new ones - uncovering the oval window, opening up the Grand Hall, letting the Morning Room live up to its name.
